Today started with a 1,000 meter climb out of Azogues that did a number on me due to my weakened state. Not far out of town I ran into a Japanese cyclist who is travelling from Canada to Ushuaia, we spent some time chatting about the roads to come. When I reached the top of the climb I could see heavy rain off in the distance... I had been debating on whether to stay the night in Cañar anyways and the rain made up my mind. I headed into town and grabbed a hostal - in the hotel register the last person was the Japanese cyclist I met this morning, and I've got the same room!
