I get up early but it takes me a while to get out of Grand Junction, lots of riding around to finish up a few chores. It's Easter Sunday (Happy Easter!) so most things are closed.

A couple with a small child and 4 dogs traveling from Maryland to California. They are hauling those two crates with bikes, one of them is massive.

Another underpass story.

When I finally finish up in Grand Junction I head to the Colorado National Monument. It's free today, normally 5 dollars, the ranger said it's National Parks Week. There is a fair amount of climbing to get up onto the mesa. I run into a ton of cyclists going up and down the climb, I chat with a number of them.

Not a good deal if you're alone.

After the Monument I head west on I-70 back towards Utah. On the way in I saw a cool looking BLM area with campgrounds called Rabbit Valley so I make that my destination. It's a slog due to the wind but I'm in no hurry today. Once in Rabbit Valley I find a great unused campsite that's set back away from the campground. Probably no one is using it because there is no direct car access. A guy comes over and offers me a beer, turns out he grew up not far away from where I did. We chat for a while then it's time for dinner, when I open my vegetable bag I discover that everything has turned to mush. They froze in the motel fridge and thawed into vegetable soup. Bummer, this may have an effect on my plans because there are no services nearby heading west.
