Leaving Chanavayita I got a flat on the rear. A nice big piece of wire stuck right through the tire. Not a very exciting ride towards Iquique in the morning. It was flatter with lots of traffic, especially after I passed the airport. After one hill Iquique appeared in the distance: a long line of high-rises snaking between mountains and ocean. The main drag even has palm trees, it feels like Miami but if you go two blocks off the beach into the city it becomes Chilean real quick. The beach is really nice with huge waves crashing in.
I rode around for a while trying to find a place to stay before settling on a small hotel near the cathedral. Then I was off to look for bike parts, not much luck there. I went to my favorite Chilean supermarket (Jumbo) to stock up on food for the ride to Arica. I ate dinner on the beach watching the sunset.
