It rained hard at some point overnight but it only lasted for a half hour or so. The thunder kept me up for a while. In the morning I saw a fox, they are probably what has been creeping around my tent recently.
I tried to patch the rack together, fixed the rear wheel that had gone flat overnight, and then hit the road. It was me versus the rack all day. I would get it cinched up and 10 or 20 kilometers later it would fall down and start rubbing the wheel. Very frustrating day. It was hot and there were no decent shops to be found today which contributed to my bad mood. San Blas is a collection of scruffy looking towns along Ruta 40, it must be tough to live out here without a decent food store. Of course there are meat markets and barbecue places all over... so if all you eat is meat, I guess it works.
I just bought the minimum to get me through today and tomorrow morning, got some water from a spigot on one of the squares, and headed out towards Belén. I got another flat on the way out of town. This one wasn't a puncture, the tube had split along one of the seams. More desert riding, hot and straight, but not flat. Pretty heavy headwinds as well. I think I stopped 3 more times before I could get the rack to hold up for a good distance. At 7 I packed it in and got off the road to camp. Dinner was a minimalist affair... Really hot in the tent right now.
I got out of the tent later on and was treated to spectacular light show of stars, a crescent moon, and fireflies.
