I'm getting dropped off down I-25 at Caballo Lake this morning, a few miles past Truth or Consequences, to avoid having to ride on the highway. For a change of pace I'll be riding through Silver City instead of the way I came via Show Low.
Not long into the day I realize I'm pretty tired out from the weekend's activities which didn't include much sleep. I've got a long climb up to Emory Pass at over 8,000 feet ahead of me. Nice road though, hardly anyone on it. I try to do the whole climb in one shot but I end up taking a few breaks along the way.
It's a lot cooler at the top of the pass. Since I'm soaking wet with sweat from the exertion of the climb I actually get chills in the wind on the top of the mountain. I don't dally long; next is a whole lot of downhill through the pine trees.
I roll into Silver City completely exhausted, drop my stuff at the motel, and head to Denny's to stuff my face.
