Leave at 9am. Straight into the mountains, fabulous roads, zigging and zagging. Up above the snow line.
On top of one of the passes I meet a bunch of French kids. They want to talk about basketball, Paul Pierce, Tony Parker. When I tell them I've seen Larry Bird play they are really impressed. The little girl is chasing sheep around the parking lot. Vinje-Vangnes, ferry to Dragsvik 43 kröner. Fabulous views from the ferry accross the fjord. The 13 to Moskog, the 5 to Byrkjelo, the 60 to Stryn. Lunch on a lake. Stryn to Stranda on the 60. Ferry to Spjelkavik, Alesund.
Everything is booked so I end up in a youth hostel. First time on this trip I've been in a hostel. Liam, Irish kid 24 years old doing a Norway trip by bus. He makes me a cup of coffee, man is it good. Dinner fish and chips. The city is dead, I don't understand how everything is booked if there is no one around. Laundry back at the hostel. Two Swedish couples on a Honda CB1000 and a Yamaha show up later. Chat with them for a while about the best roads to take. Sleep in a dormitory with about 20 people...yikes...and it wasn't cheap.
